Model United Nations (MUN) is a globally recognized academic simulation that brings the principles and procedures of the United Nations to life. At its core, MUN provides students with the opportunity to assume the roles of diplomats and representatives from UN member states to collaboratively address some of the most pressing global issues of our time. Through debate, negotiation, and formal resolution-writing, participants gain a firsthand understanding of international diplomacy, multilateral cooperation, and the inner workings of the UN system.
At Northern Arizona University, our MUN team represents a dynamic and award-winning group of students with a shared passion for global affairs, leadership, and civic engagement. As part of our program, students are immersed in rigorous research, policy analysis, and the development of persuasive public speaking and negotiation skills. Our delegates learn to think critically, advocate effectively, and collaborate under pressure—skills that are essential in both international relations and any professional field.
Our team competes at high-profile Model UN conferences throughout North America and Europe. We have proudly represented NAU in cities such as Chicago, Washington D.C., New York City, Boston, Montreal, and Madrid, among others. These conferences bring together thousands of university students from across the globe, offering an unparalleled opportunity to engage in cross-cultural dialogue and form lasting academic and professional connections.
Whether you’re an experienced delegate or just beginning to explore international affairs, NAU MUN welcomes students from all majors and backgrounds. Our program is the ideal platform for developing competencies in public speaking, policy writing, research, and team leadership. Members receive comprehensive training and mentorship to prepare for conferences and to build confidence in formal and informal diplomatic settings.

Dr. Gee has been the MUN Advisor since 2011, when she was handed the job with virtually no understanding of what MUN was or what being an advisor looked like. She has learned a lot since then and has traveled with students to conferences all over the world, including Australia, Panama, Spain, Belgium, France, Canada, and the US, to name a few. She is Chair and Teaching Professor in the Department of Politics and International Affairs, has been a Fulbright Grantee in Tirana, Albania, and has been honored to be recognized as a President's Distinguished Teaching Fellow and as the 2025 College of Social and Behavioral Sciences Teacher of the Year. She has a husband, two daughters, and one dog named Coco that makes her crazy but she also loves dearly.
